Parkhill Properties – who outlined their affordable, seniors housing project at a Nov. 6, 2017 Council meeting – purchased the parcel of land for a record-setting $743,243 per acre for pre-development approved land. Parkhill purchased a total of 1.48 acres, for a total of $1.1 million, closing on a date of no later than March 31, 2018.

Unfortunately, due to poor manufacturing of some garmets, they do not withstand the dry cleaning process well. It is crucial for the consumer to be aware of these problem pieces and if possible, refrain from purchasing them or hand wash them. Be advised that these items will say “dry clean only” on their tags, but they have been idenified as problematic due to a manufacturers defect. A black ladies zipper pocket blazer made of polyester, rayon & spandex. There are black synthetic leather (polyurethane) trim panels at the shoulders. The care label simply reads, “Dry Clean.” There are no International Cleanability Code care symbols.

As the season of giving quickly approaches, planning for the 27th annual Pelham Community Food Drive is well underway.  Pelham Cares, with community partners Fonthill and District Kinsmen Club, Fonthill Lions Club and Fenwick Lions Club, will carry on this tradition.

I want to thank all of the members who attended our information session on Thursday to learn more about Bill 148 from Deborah-Marie Forrester. The evening was full of delicious platters from Ridgeberry Farms, an educational session and enjoyable company. We look forward to hosting more of these events and seeing more of our members in the future.

Get your mind in the gutters. Your roof's drainage system annually diverts thousands of gallons of water from your house's exterior and foundation walls. That's why it is so important to keep this system flowing smoothly. Clogged gutters can lead to damaged exterior surfaces and to water in your basement. Before the leaves fly this fall, have your gutters cleaned, then covered with mesh guards to keep debris from returning. DON’T FORGET ABOUT WINDOW WELL DRAINS AND BASEMENT ENTRY DRAINS.

The Sobeys Fonthill team continues their commitment to Niagara wide student nutrition programs which is already a vital part of the day for more than 17,000 children in the Niagara Region.

The feeling of spring is in the air, and as we draw nearer to longer days and sunny weather, many of us have gardening on the mind.  Perhaps you are planting some flowers in your garden, or helping to plant trees in your community.  That act of planting and nurturing trees can also guide our behavior in other areas of life — such as investing.  First of all, consider the vision and patience exhibited by tree growers when they plant their saplings.

You have enough to worry about during the holidays without freaking out about what you’ll do with your hair for office parties and family get-togethers. Sure, you can go with your usual slicked-back topknot—or, our personal favourite, the classic wash-and-go style —but do either of those really scream “holidays”?

Councillors and I were delighted to receive a presentation from representatives of Parkhill Property Corporation at Council last week. You see, the Town recently approved an agreement with Parkhill to purchase Town-owned land for a seniors/affordable housing apartment building in East Fonthill.

The Niagara Association of REALTORS® (NAR) reported 577 property sales processed through the NAR Multiple Listing Service (MLS®) system in October. This represents a 23.17% decrease in sales across Niagara compared to October of last year. In Pelham and Welland, unit sales for the month were down 16.7% and 4% respectively. The decline in sales for the month is reflective of the Niagara market transitioning into a more balanced position from the peak sales activity that occurred during the past year.
