A full complement of 144 golfers gathered at the beautiful Peninsula Lakes Golf Club in Fonthill for the 6th Annual Sobeys Golf Tournament in support of Niagara Nutrition Partners. Surpassing a goal of $18,000, golfers’ generosity brought in $20,000, bringing the total funds raised over 6 years to almost $80,000. The Sobeys Fonthill team continues their commitment to Niagara wide student nutrition programs which is already a vital part of the day for more than 17,000 children in the Niagara Region. SobeysFonthill owner, Ron Kore, believes that, “no child should go hungry and every child should be given the opportunity to be the best they can be. The tournament is a way I can involve the community in giving back. This gives back to many children across Niagara including my hometown of Pelham.”

We are so proud of our member Mike who has just wrapped up 4 years as Chair of District Youth Committee.

While so-called “intact” families (with both of the biological or adoptive parents still present) remain the majority in Canada, stepfamilies, also known as blended families, continue to grow in number. In fact, the latest census shows that a child entering adolescence has a more than one-in-three chance of no longer living with his or her original family.

I am wondering about your thoughts on the work toward a seamless and integrated transit system for the Niagara Peninsula. You may recall that after working on an inter-municipal transit system for a few years, Staff presented a plan in 2010 for the Region to begin operating transit. As a response, the Cities of St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland made a counter-proposal that the Region fund a system that the three services would operate. Regional Council approved this Niagara Region Transit for three years with the intent that if successful, the group could take further steps.

The risk of water damage across Canada continues to increase with more extreme storms, changes in rainfall patterns, faster snow melt, and rising sea levels.

Water damage, can destroy your sentimental or irreplaceable items, damage your flooring, your furniture and your electronic equipment and even cause potential health issues arising from mold.

The Pelham Medical Associates hosted the third annual Pelham Peewee tournament on June 8-10th weekend for eight visiting Southern Ontario teams. Pelham beat Woodstock and Clinton to advance to the semi-finals against the Simcoe Majors on Sunday.  MVP medals were won by Trevor Heaslip for outstanding fielding at short stop, Jason Sviergula for several diving catches at centre and a home run, pitcher Connor Jolicoeur and Matthew Oakes for playing through injury and hitting a triple off the outfield fence. The entire team was producing clutch hits and solid fielding all weekend.

The Rose City Seniors Centre Foundation Board awarded $1,000 bursaries to each of the four recipients.  Congratulations ladies.

Nothing brings people together like food—especially when they arrive at a party with their favourite saladlasagna or brownies in hand. It’s no wonder, then, that we always love a good potluck. It’s easy on your budget but—more important—it’s fun and delicious. After all, if sharing a table makes a stranger a friend, sharing a kitchen makes them family. Here are our top tips to help you throw a stress-free potluck.

As many of us know, the right hair colour can give life to your complexion and take years off your look. However, how many of us know that skin tone and hair shade must complement each other? It is recommended for fairer tones to go warm, medium tones to go neutral, and darker tones to go cool. Warm tones are considered olive or golden hues, for those with fair skin. The gold or warm tones reflect warmth onto the skin. If you use an ash colour, you may look washed out. Medium tones should stay neutral; not too cool or too warm but a bit of both. Deeper skin tones should stay in cool tones (for example: pinks or blues) to keep hair from looking flat.
