The second annual Niagara Leadership Summit for Women is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Brock University. Hosted by YWCA Niagara Region, the Leadership Summit is a full day conference designed to inspire, build community connections and recognize women’s leadership in Niagara. “The Niagara Leadership Summit for Women aims at facilitating an intergenerational, region-‐wide, inclusive and accessible event to celebrate women’s leadership,” said Elisabeth Zimmermann, Executive Director of the YWCA Niagara Region. “It is part of our mission at the YW to empower women to reach their full potential. To promote women in leadership means creating a positive change for Niagara.”

With a wide variety of guest speakers and discussion topics, the Leadership Summit is not just for women. The program offers something for all ages, genders and interests. Discussion topics include female leadership in politics & activism, indigenous leadership, breaking barriers for young women in leadership, entrepreneurship and much more. Guest speakers will come from all corners of the Niagara region and bring a diverse range of experiences and insights to share with participants.

The full day program will wrap up with a keynote address by stand-‐up comic turned author and inspirational speaker, Susan Stewart. Susan is the author of "Reaching The Laugh Resort" and "Your New Lenses Are Ready For Pick Up: A Guide To Seeing The Lighter Side Of Life," and she will be delivering her unique brand of inspirational comedy to the NLSW crowd.

“We’re very excited to bring this event back for the second year to celebrate the women, youth and allies who make a positive difference every day in our community,” said Julie Rorison, chair of the planning committee. “There are so many great people who deserve to be recognized for their leadership and this event is a way for us to come together to celebrate, to reflect, and to work together to continue to make positive changes for future leaders to grow.”

At only $15 per person including lunch, the Leadership Summit invites everyone to participate. To increase accessibility for women with children, child minding will be offered on the day of the Summit. Registration is open online at Hosted by the YWCA Niagara Region. The YW provides shelter, food and assistance to homeless women and their families.
