The Town of Pelham is creating a designated space for seniors in the Meridian Community Centre. This will be home

to an 8-month project: SAY IT! On Stage. “SAY IT” stands for “Seniors and Youth Intergenerational Theatre”. It is a

program designed to strengthen connections and encourage collaboration between teens and their elders. A Niagara

Community Foundation grant, together with in-kind donations from the Town of Pelham, E.L. Crossley High School,

and community volunteers will fund this exciting creative process that will finish in the performance of an original

dramatic production in December 2019. Through 8 weeks of intergenerational conversation circles, senior participants

will have the opportunity to share anecdotes and experiences from their lives; these stories will provide the foundation

for a stage play that will be produced and performed by both youth and senior participants. This initiative also seeks to

showcase the broad range of talents and passions individuals bring to the project – music, dance, visual arts, crafts,

trades. Our aim is to involve the community of Pelham in all of its diversity, including Indigenous presence and

storytelling approaches. We hope you will join us in this artistic endeavor.

-        To share your life stories

-        To celebrate your life experiences with the community

-        To build relationships with your neighbours through storytelling and drama activities

-        To encourage you to share your life experiences with youth as you create, rehearse, and perform community theatre

-        To enrich your cultural life with a new performance arts initiative within your community

After taking time to settle in as a new resident of Pelham, Colleen wants to use her background as an educator and dramatist to make a unique

contribution to our community. She came to us with this project idea, already experienced in running seniors programming, writing and producing

plays, and teaching English and ESL at both the secondary and postsecondary levels. Colleen grew up in Victoria B.C., but has since moved

around the country and the globe, most recently making a short hop from the Waterloo Region to join us here in Niagara. She believes that SAY IT!

On Stage has the power to invigorate imaginations, connect creative minds across age groups, and to provide the unforgettable experience of putting

on a show homegrown in the Town of Pelham
