Owner Allison Kares: After 23 years working in the Health and Fitness Industry, Allison Kares opened Movement Unlimited Inc. Her passion for effective and efficient movement has developed into a business that provides unique programming to the residents of Niagara to assist them in reaching their ultimate movement potential. Whether fit or injured, young or mature, Allison has a program to help you achieve your goals.
From 2003 to 2012, Allison Kares co-owned Pilates Niagara and managed the Fonthill studio. She has been instructing Stott Pilates since 2001. Allison has an extensive background in rehabilitation, including 12 years as exercise therapist for Kay Yardley and Associates Physiotherapy. Allison developed and implemented exercise programs for Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA), industrial, WSIB and private clients to assist in their rehabilitation. She was also responsible for developing and presenting workplace wellness programs and on-site ergonomic programs for many employers throughout Niagara.In 1998, Allison began her extensive study of Pilates and its benefits.
Stott Pilates was most appealing method due to the anatomical basis and wide spread research that went into the it. Stott Pilates has consulted physiotherapists and Sports Medicine Specialists to contemporize the Pilates method and allow it to be modified for clients in rehabilitation or used for elite athletes. Early in 2001, Allison began her training at the International Certification Centre for Stott Pilates in Toronto. She has completed the highest level of training in available from Stott including training on all equipment and completion of the Injury and Special Populations course.
Allison continues to further her depth of knowledge in the Pilates method with courses in Therapeutic Pilates and Critical Reasoning. Through these courses she has developed top notch assessment and implementation skills in making Pilates work for clients regardless of their age or injury. Allison’s focus during sessions is to educate clients about their injury so they can apply the principles of Pilates effectively to their exercise program and their daily life.
Allison continues her work in rehabilitation using a Pilates based approach that has incorporated many complimentary methods of movement to provide a unique slant to help clients move more effectively, contract muscles more efficiently and feel better. She works closely with several health care providers including doctors, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and massage therapists to provide continuity of care for clients. She is able to provide third party billing to Motor Vehicle Insurance companies with an approved treatment plan.
Allison provides education and development through her assistance with the Niagara College Fitness and Health Promotions Program. Allison volunteers her time as a member of the Curriculum Development committee, as well as working as a guest lecturer in the Exercise Leadership program to teach new instructors the benefits of Pilates. Allison also provides fun and engaging presentations about movement, ergonomics and the benefits of fitness through public speaking engagements.
Allison’s passion for effective & efficient movement and her experience in rehabilitation have meshed to enhance your experience and provide you with better function in daily life and an improved quality of life.
